Entrance to Skylodge

A budget priced airport hotel (rated 2 star), the Skylodge is well back from the road and set in 10 acres of landscaped grounds. It has a decent restaurant, good pool, and onsite hair and beauty salon. The room rates at the time of writing (Feb 2020) is priced from fj$121 for a standard room. The larger family rooms that have a double and 2 single beds are not much more, at fj$135. Very good value IMO. Especially when the room rate includes a continental style breakfast and wifi.

First Impressions: As you turn off the main road into the Skylodge, the driveway meanders past some holiday cottages for about 400m until you get to the Skylodge entrance.

Walking around the grounds, your first stop might be the pool. A few loungers around the edge, and it looks to be clean and well maintained. There is also a nice courtyard garden, where you can sit in the shade after grabbing a drink from the bar.

Our Thoughts

Definitely not the worst place to stay in Nadi, and the price is right. But you do have to keep in mind, this is a two star rated property. If you expect 3-4 star accommodation, you are going to be disappointed.

The Skylodge is a little dated, but overall, pretty decent for the price. Like many hotels, you may have to ask more than once to get a fresh towel or your order from the restaurant (but this is Fiji, that happens everywhere, all the time) but just "go with the flow" and keep realistic expectations.

Would we stay here? If we were looking for somewhere cheap and handy to the airport, then we would definitely consider the Tanoa Skylodge. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either, and you could defefinitely pay a lot more for a worse stay at some other Nadi hotels.

Food and Beverage Prices... A Little Steep?

Maybe this is not a fair way to judge a property, but I just can't help it. This is my rule of thumb... How much does a stubby of Fiji Gold cost? Yes, I know, it's probably not fair at all, but I enjoy a cold beer on a hot day, and I like to feel I'm not being taken advantage of with the price.

At the time these photos were taken, you would pay fj$5.50 - $6 for a stubby of Fiji Gold at one of the Wailoaloa Beach properties. At the Skylodge, it's fj$7.50. I also happen to know that a pack of 20 cigarettes in town was fj$15-16. Here, it is fj$20. So that's a 25% markup on top of what the expected retail is at some other places. A can of fizzy drink, fj$4 is also a bit on the steep side. OK, so you expect to pay a little more at a hotel. Still, it's good to know just how much more.
