Nadi Downtown Hotel

We have more general information about Nadi

.

Location: If you want to stay in downtown Nadi, there is only one choice.. the very appropriately named Nadi Downtown Hotel. Located on the main street, this is only a short stroll to the famous Sri Siva temple, banks, restaurants, cafes, bus station, and markets.

There is a new mall currently being constructed next door, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year (2019). This will house restaurants, shops, supermarket etc, and will give you even more options for your shopping excursions.

The Rooms & Rates

I have stayed here many times when I'm in Nadi because of the central location. While the place does have it's faults, there is one thing that impresses me - the fact that every room has A/C that actually gets cold, as well as an overhead fan! Don't underestimate this... it's far too common to get a room somewhere and the A/C either does't work, leaks, or is too noisy to run through the night. Nadi in summer can be stifling, and good A/C is worth it's weight in gold.

Deluxe Rooms: FJ$110

Superior Rooms: FJ$145

Family Rooms: FJ$170

Rooms have the usual facilities. Tea/coffee makings, phone, small flat-screen TV (although the reception is nothing to get excited about), fridge and so forth. Showers can take a while to run the hot water, but it gets there in the end! And I’m happy to say that with so many stays here, I have never had a bedbug bite.

Some of the rooms have a decent view, others don't. The rooms facing the new mall have no view other than the concrete sides of the mall, but rooms on the top floor that face the other way or to the front or back, get a lovely look across the main street, or the town outskirts and out to the hills.

Free Wi-Fi: A recent addition is wifi boosters throughout the property, so you can now get their free wifi in the rooms. Just ask reception for a code.

Free Light Breakfast: They provide a free light breakfast, 7-9am. Tea/coffee, toast, juice, and seasonal fruits.

Free Airport Pickup/Dropoffs: A shuttle runs out to the airport for the early ,morning flights (departs hotel at 5am) and again at 2pm. Other times can be scheduled by arrangement.

Onsite Travel Center: P.V.V Travel have their main tour center here in the reception area, so can organize any tours transfers or activities that you need. They are probably one of the cheapest in town, and also run their own unique tours that are not available to book elsewhere.

Thoughts On Nadi Downtown Hotel

If you want to be in town, then this is a good (and the only) option. You can walk to pretty much anywhere you need. The Westpac and ANZ banks and ATMs, and the Vodafone and Digicel stores are only a block away further up the street.

The hotel is on three levels and unfortunately they don't have an elevator, although I'm told one is in the plans for upcoming renovations. But reception or your transfer driver will be available to help you carry heavy bags upstairs. They also have a lockable storage area by reception, so you can leave large cases there if you are going to be catching an early flight the next day.

Don't expect 5 star, this is a budget hotel and is most suitable for those that need a day or two in town after catching a flight to Fiji. As they have a travel office onsite, Prakash (hotel owner) will be able to help you with travel plans, tours etc, and give some advice on the best way to maximise your time in Fiji. The PVV travel office will also do far better tour and package rates than any of the places in town.

Within Easy Walking Distance To...

Sri Siva Subramaniya Hindu temple: If you are planning a trip to see the famous Sri Siva temple, that is no more that 400 meters away. A nominal $5 entry fee, and they also have a really good vegetarian restaurant there now.

Westpac and ANZ banks and ATMs: You can see the Westpac from the front door. Its only 200 meters up on the other side of the road. The ANZ is a little further up, perhaps 400 meters, on same side of the road as the hotel.

Vodafone Store: On the same side of the road as Westpac, and one block further away. Digicel store is not far from that, on opposite side.

Nadi Handicraft Market: Walk out the front door and turn right. Cross the first road you come to, and the market is right there, a 2 min walk.

Municipal Market and Main Bus Station: Walk past the handicraft market, and go another block. Turn right, and walk about 200 meters to the market, another 100 meters past that is the bus station. The market is a great place to get cheap seasonal fruits. For example, papayas, 5 for $FJ3, mangos, same price (not available until mango season which usually starts about Oct).

The bus station is a hive of activity with buses constantly coming and going. You can catch a yellow bus to Denarau for FJ$1, or bus to Lautoka for FJ$2.75. Both local and express buses can be caught here.

Currency Exchange: There are so many of these that there is little point in giving directions. Just exit the hotel, turn right and walk up the main street. You will find plenty of exchange booths, but check a few places to find the best rates.

Supermarkets: There is a small mini-mart 100 meters away. Exit the hotel, turn left. Larger supermarkets are the other way, or there are a couple of handy 24 hr gas stations for things like cigarettes, milk, drinks, snacks etc.

Taxis: There are always taxis outside the main doors, and you can get one 24 hrs a day by just walking outside.
